Gregg Berhalter: Former Player, Current Head Coach of the United States Men's National Soccer Team

Early Life and Career

Gregg Matthew Berhalter was born on August 1, 1973, in Englewood, New Jersey. He began his soccer career with the youth teams of local clubs before joining the United States youth national team in 1991. Berhalter made his professional debut in 1994 with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and later played for several clubs in Europe, including Crystal Palace, SC Freiburg, and 1860 Munich.

International Career

Berhalter earned 44 caps for the United States national team between 1994 and 2006. He represented the USA at the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups and was a member of the team that won the 1995 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Berhalter transitioned into coaching. He began as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2011 and later became the head coach of the Columbus Crew in 2013. In December 2018, Berhalter was appointed as the head coach of the United States men's national soccer team.

Success with the US Men's National Team

Under Berhalter's leadership, the US Men's National Team has made significant progress. The team reached the quarterfinals of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the final of the 2021 CONCACAF Nations League. Berhalter also guided the team to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Personal Life

Gregg Berhalter is married to Rosalind Santana Berhalter, and they have three children. His son, Sebastian Berhalter, is a professional soccer player who plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
